South Africa records first deaths to COVID-19, orders a complete lockdown

This morning, Friday, 27th of March, the South African Ministry of Health announced the first deaths from the COVID 19 virus in the country. Two people died in the hospital in the Southern region of Western Cape.

As a result of these deaths, the South African government has issued three weeks nationwide lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of the fast-spreading and ferocious COVID 19 virus.

All movements are forbidden within the country except for essential movements such as the police force, army doctors, nurses, paramedics, etc.

As soon as the announcement for the lockdown was made, there have been long queues in supermarkets and markets across the country, people are stocking up their homes with essential materials they will need in the three weeks the lockdown will hold.

The president of South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa paid a visit to the military soldiers based in Johannesburg, wearing a camouflage uniform and he deployed them to other parts of the country to protect and defend the people from the COVID 19 virus and the army was waging a war against the invisible enemy, COVID 19 virus.

So far, South Africa has recorded almost 800 confirmed cases of the COVID 19 virus and 2 deaths.
