Directives have gone out from several government parastatals advising their staff of the impending NLC/TUC strike set to commence tomorrow on the 28th of September.
All the circulars have advised full compliance with the strike actionas directed by the NLC.
Although the federal government has on several occasions pleaded with Labour to avert the strike as of the time of this writing it is yet to offer a solution which the leaders of the Labour can assent to.
Some of the grievances listed include increased fuel tariffs, the removal of fuel subsidy and untold hardship by Nigerians in general.
The leaders of the National Labour Congress are meeting with the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila as a final attempt to prevent the strike this evening.
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had explained that due to the toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country had lost close to 60% in revenue generation and as such the fuel subsidy is not a feasible option.
Although, he disclosed that plans are underway for a cheaper fuel option. It is a solution that has not materialized and doesn’t seem to be an option that prevents many Nigerians from the immediate economic hardships of the removal of the subsidy.
