According to Nigeria’s former finance minister, the country’s economy is threatened by recession and difficult times following the outbreak of the pandemic disease in the country.

She has urged Nigeria and other African countries to diversify their economies and also look into other means of generating revenue as things make get more difficult as a result of the outbreak.

On the impact of oil prices on the economy around the globe, Okonjo Iweala stated that Nigeria’s Federal government needs to make the economy not rely entirely on these commodities. They should look into diversifying and restructuring the economy to provide more jobs for its citizens.

African countries should look into other sectors like Agriculture and tourism to build industries and start generating revenue from them, she disclosed.

According to her, 2020 to 2021 would prove to be a difficult time but this impact could be lessened if countries around the globe cooperate and not give into nationalism and populism.

This way, enough resources would be available to tackle this pandemic, and also help would be given to struggling nations, she advised.
