1. Lagos State House of Assembly members, on Monday began impeachment proceedings against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
They accused Ambode of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
2. The National Assembly has cancelled emergency session scheduled for Tuesday to discuss suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
In a letter written and signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Nelson Ayewoh, he pointed out that the resumption date of February 19 still remains.
3. The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has announced plans to embark on a two-day boycott of courts following the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
The decision was taken after the just concluded NEC meeting over controversies surrounding suspension of Onnoghen.
4. Security operatives on Monday reportedly sealed off the office of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
The agents stormed the office located at the Supreme Court premises on Monday morning, even as staff members were ejected.
5. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed registering 869,709 candidates for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is scheduled to hold in March.
The board in its weekly bulletin from the office of the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on Monday, also revealed that it has suspended nine Computer-Based Test centres, that breached the code governing the 2019 registration exercise.
6. Protesters have invaded the national secretariat of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, over President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, NJC.
The protesters are members of the National Interest Defenders and Lawyers in Defense of Democracy.
7. The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday unanimously struck out the case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Eleka Olusola, and ruled that Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is the duly-elected governor of Ekiti State.
The lead verdict was read by Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Suleiman Belgore, stressed that scanty evidence before it, “did not resolve presumption of regularity in favour of the petitioners”
8. Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday said there was no time that the Senate met and took the decision to approach the Supreme Court for an interpretation of the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.
The APC senators, through Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe), said no such decision was taken by the Senate as an institution.
9. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday, revealed that its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has arrived London to see his child that he has not seen because of his incarceration in 2015.
Kanu is also in the UK, to perfect arrangements on Biafra referendum, scheduled to hold 16th February 2019.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari led government has cautioned representatives of foreign countries and organisations resident in the country against interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the warning in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mr George Edokpa on Monday in Abuja, expressed deep concern on statements made by the U.S Embassy, UK High Commission and European Union Election Observer Mission, regarding the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
