Serie A to take no action over Kean & Matuidi racial abuse

The Italian Serie A has announced that there will be no disciplinary action taken against Cagliari over its fans’ racist chants towards Juventus players Moise Kean and Blaise Matuidi during their league clash in April.

The league’s disciplinary panel in its ruling on the case, said the chants had “limited” relevance and perception, though they acknowledged the chants were “certainly reprehensible”.

Teenage Juventus striker, Moise Kean was subjected to several discriminatory chants throughout the match, which intensified after he opened the scoring in the match, with monkey noises heard among the crowd but the tribunal postponed a ruling on the case to obtain more information from match delegates.

Racism has plagued Italian football for decades, with authorities coming under intense scrutiny for not doing enough to tackle it.

This latest decision has generated lots of backlashes, with anti-racism organization, Kick It Out, describing the decision as “Embarrassing. Pathetic. Disgraceful.”
