Reason why Lawmakers invited NNPC, Chevron, and NEMA

The House of Representatives has invited the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC, Chevron Nigeria Limited and the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to appear before relevant house committees over failure to put out an abandoned oil well currently on fire in Ondo state.

The motion which was raised by Honourable Victor Akinjo on the floor of the house saying several properties have been destroyed and the lives of residents affected, with community put at risk as International oil company Chevron who initially operated the well has refused to take adequate steps to put out the fire.

The house unanimously adopted the motion tasking those responsible to ensure the affected communities are adequately compensated.
