Carrie Lam takes responsibility for Hong Kong Crisis in Leaked Private Message

Hong Kong Leader, Carrie Lam has in a leaked audio message, taken responsibility for the ‘unforgivable havoc’ unleashed in Hong Kong spanning into months. The protest initially begun as a result of the Extradition bill to China and the bill was eventually squelched.

According to the leaked audio released by Reuters, the Hong Kong Leader disclosed that she would quit if she had the opportunity while discussing in a closed-door lunch meeting with business leaders.

She expressed her conflicting loyalty to both the people of Hong Kong and the Central People’s government leaving her little room for manoeuvring. She also expressed how her ability to stop the protests also conflicted with the ongoing trade war crisis with the united states.

Moreover, according to Lam, there are currently no plans for China to send her military to help curb the ongoing crisis.

In a somewhat confirmation, Carrie Lam has condemned the leak of her statements stating that it breached the Chatham House rules. She also clarified that she has not tendered a resignation letter to her superiors in China and as such too much meaning should not be read into her statements.

She further requested for patience and tolerance from the people as she had faith she could still overcome the crisis Hong Kong currently faces.
