The British High Commission in Nigeria has urged the Abia State Police Command to ensure a violence-free election in the state in 2019.

Speaking at the Police Headquarters in Umuahia on Sunday, the Deputy High Commissioner in Nigeria, Harriet Thompson, said she was in Abia as part of a mission to the southeast region of the country, to assess the level of preparedness of the Police force, ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Thompson, who said the 2019 elections would determine Nigeria’s future, noted that the British High Commission would deploy significant monitoring machines across the country during the elections.

The State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, assured that the Command would provide a level playing field for all parties, assuring that the Police will discharge its duties objectively, before, during, and after the polls.
