Abubakar Malami explains why El-Zakzaky cannot be Released!

SAN and Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has explained that Ibrahim El-Zakzaky’s incarceration is as a result of Public Interest.

The Veteran explained that despite the legal conclusion on his release based on sections 36, 37 and 39 of the constitution which upholds the right of any citizen from being violated, there is a clause in section 174 of the 1999 constitution which provides for public interest to override private interest. He further stressed that the AGF has the exclusive responsibility of upholding the public interest above the personal interest of any persons.

El-Zakzaky has been in detention for several years now and his crimes have not been publicly disclosed citing several protests violent and otherwise from Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria who have remained adamant that their leader has been unlawfully detained.

El-Zakzaky has currently been diagnosed with excessive amounts of lead in his bloodstream and is in danger of losing his sense of sight according to reports from SAN Femi Falana.

Several riotous protests have ensued and now the group have been proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nation.

Furthermore, the refusal to explicitly state the crimes of the endangered Islamic leader has become a cause for concern as many lives have been lost in a bid to secure his release which has sparked further controversy.
