The National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters is expected to reconvene in Abuja today concerning the 2019 general election budget proposal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The committee would be converging in order to come to a consensus on which budget should be approved for the INEC in preparation for the elections coming up in February 2019.
The joint committee which is made up of members from the Senate as well as the House of Reps had met three times in order to consider the budget for the elections but is yet to agree on the tender to approve, having two options of N143 billion or N189 billion for preparations towards the 2019 elections.
At the last sitting, the members of the committee had taken a bias towards their respective parties, while debating on the bid amount that they should approve towards the 2019 general elections.
While the PDP members of the committee were in favour of N143 billion as requested by President Buhari, their APC members favoured the approval of N189 billion which was presented by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu.
