NCDC is preparing to increase testing capacity to 4000 per day says DG

According to the Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, the agency is in dire need of more RNA extraction kits. As this would help the agency intensify its testing capability for COVID-19. Chikwe Ihekweazu disclosed.

Ihekweazu took to his Twitter page to reveal the product and manufacturer of the preferred RNA testing kit needed by the agency. ‘’Product: Total viral RNA extraction kits (preferably spin column and with a lysis buffer) manufacturers: Qiagen, Thermo Fischer, SeeGene, Inqaba, LifeRiver, etc”.

He also disclosed that 2 new laboratories were erected to join the existing 13 across the country. On 21 April, at the Federal Capital Territory, the NCDC Director-General Ihekweazu stated that the country is looking to intensify it’s testing capacity to 4000 per day. 2000 samples to be done daily in Lagos.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic disease, countries around the globe while trying to flatten their infection cycle is also trying to increase their testing capability to ascertain the number of citizens affected by the virus and how far they’ve gone in the fight against the virus.
