The Board of the National Broadcasting Commission NBC has rejected the new National broadcasting code released by the commission over several clauses inserted into the code without the approval of the board.

The Chairman of the board, Ikra Bibis, while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, accused the Minister of Information Lai Mohammed of reviewing and amending the sixth edition of the code without the involvement of key players in the industry.

Bibis says the board will not recognize the new code which has several controversial clauses including raising the fine for hate speech from Five Hundred Thousand Naira to Five Million Naira.

This topic was heavily discussed on our PlusPolitics programme with Ken Ugbechie and Deji Adeyanju analyzed in depth why the new Hate Speech Bill is flawed. Here’s a recap.
