During the pan-Yoruba development interest group, the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) Worldwide meeting hosted by the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi. He made it known that the southwest geopolitical zone is a part of Nigeria and it is as important as any other geopolitical zone. To this effect, he clarified that there are no plans to break away or secede from the country.

He admonished people who allowed fear to creep into them or considered that the southwest may secede because of the launch of Amotekun. He went further to explain that governors in the southwest geo-political zone launched Amotekun for the sake of the people. To fight and eradicate criminal activities, to ensure the safety and protection of the lives of the people.

The launch and establishment of Amotekun are more for people than political in any way. Amotekun is launched by the governors to complement and work side by side with the already established security agencies. The governors of the South West came together to find means and ways of lessening the tension aroused over the launch of Amotekun.

This was made known by the governor and chairman of the Nigerian Governor forum Kayode Fayemi after the meeting they held last week. Fayemi also implied that the Muhamudu Buhari should accept the Amotekun created by the South West leaders because the Southwest is part of the country and if this geopolitical zone is safe, it also strengthens the security and safety of the country in general.
