coronavirus first human trial

Today, the first clinical trial of the coronavirus vaccine was tried on a human for the first time in Seattle at the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute. The vaccine expected to be tested on 45 volunteers were administered to four of the volunteers who took their first two shots today.

Despite the widespread of the pandemic disease that has infected about 180,000 humans globally, this vaccine won’t be given to the general public until after 18 months when the safety and effectiveness are guaranteed. National Institutes of Health experts made known. The volunteers were tested for the underlying disease to ascertain they are healthy. However, they were not tested for Coronavirus or mild case of COVID-19 itself.

As gathered also, some of the volunteers will get a higher dose of the vaccine to also experiment with the effectiveness of the vaccine. After receiving the first two shots, a month must pass before they receive the other shot. The vaccine that produces harmless spike protein was developed in 42 days by the National Institute of Health and the private Biotech company Moderna.

The novel coronavirus is said to attach themselves to the human cell with spike proteins. So the vaccine which also contains spike protein will help the human body to develop antibodies.
Although the vaccine uses ‘’ messenger RNA’’ as opposed to using the real virus, health experts are still not sure of the safety as it is unsure how the immune will respond to the vaccine. There are other vaccines undergoing testing and research but this is the first being tested on humans.
