It is no longer news that illegal border migration from Mexico has been a big issue for Trump’s administration. So big that Trump made good of his promise and brought his wall into existence. The wall is as big as he projected too.
As it turns out, it appears a border wall wasn’t enough as that wasn’t enough to stop illegal migrants from strolling into the United States at will.
Trump’s response to this?
Tariffs on Mexico! It’s a very radical decision and even his party don’t seem to be supporting this move but it’s Trump-like and what’s amazing is that it actually seems to be working.
According to the U.S President, to prevent the 5% tariffs which could continually increase until the 25% mark he expects the Mexican government to exert some authority to prevent their citizens from crossing over illegally. He said as much during his visit to the UK. He doesn’t believe in the ‘Drug Lord’ Story and honestly has no reason to.
The Effect
Mexico has started making efforts finally to do something to curb the Illegal migrants of Mexicans into the United States to deter ‘Trump’s catastrophic tariff wand’.
An estimated 6,000 National Guard troops have been deployed to the southern border with Guatemala and some progress seems to have been made. However, Mexico has been unable to secure a deal with the US Capital during their talks which is cause for apprehension.
Tariffs seem to be the magical solution to most of President Trump’s many challenges.
