The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said that the Russian vaccine for the COVID-19 disease still needs some testing.

The Commissioner made the statement on Plustv Africa’s ‘The Breakfast’ on Saturday.

“Normally, it takes about three to four years to develop an effective vaccine because you have to through animal studies and then transition to human studies, and those human studies are divided into three phases.”

On August 11, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, announced in a televised video conference call with ministers, that the first vaccine offering sustainable immunity against the COVID-19 virus has been registered in Russia.

Russia has been in the long haul of finding a vaccine for the coronavirus pandemic and is now making plans to mass produce the vaccine within weeks and hopes to dole out several millions of doses in the following year.

A proud Putin could not have been happier as he mentioned that one of his daughters participated in the experiment towards reaching a vaccine after less than two months of human testing.
