Coronavirus: Zamfara govt. set to shutdown borders

Zamfara State government has announced a total lockdown of all borders of the state, effective Saturday, March 28, to prevent the outbreak and spread of the Coronavirus.

Governor Bello Matawalle made the statement during a state broadcast to update the citizens on measures being taken to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

The Governor said that with this order, no vehicle is to be allowed into or go out of the state, beginning from Saturday.

He disclosed that the decision is being taken after reaching consultations with public health officials, sister states, and heads of security services in the state.

Governor Matawalle also directed the security agencies to ensure strict compliance with the lockdown order.

The Governor emphasized that the measures taken are meant for the safety of the citizens.

He sought support and cooperation with the government towards preventing the spread of the virus in the state.

The Governor explained that the repeated advice provided by public health experts for social distancing, requires the people to remain at home to prevent the spread of the disease.
